How Many Salt Bags Do You Need? Bundle & Refill Guide
Choose a water softener salt bundle using your measured consumption, bag weight, and storage space. A larger bundle should usually last longer; it does not necessarily need to arrive every month.
Calculate the salt in a bundle
Total pounds = bag weight × number of bags.
| Bag size | 2 bags | 3 bags | 4 bags | 6 bags |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 25 lb | 50 lb | 75 lb | 100 lb | 150 lb |
| 40 lb | 80 lb | 120 lb | 160 lb | 240 lb |
| 44 lb | 88 lb | 132 lb | 176 lb | 264 lb |
This table shows arithmetic examples. Available bag sizes and pack quantities vary by product; select the options shown on the product page.
Estimate how long your bundle lasts
Months of supply = total bundle pounds ÷ measured pounds used per month.
For example, a four-pack of 40 lb bags contains 160 lb. At 40 lb per month it lasts approximately four months; at 80 lb per month it lasts approximately two months. These are planning examples, not household consumption predictions.
Choose your refill schedule
- Track how much salt you add over a representative period.
- Check the tank and refill instructions in your softener manual.
- Choose a bundle that fits your dry storage space.
- Select an available subscription frequency that supplies salt before you run out, without accumulating more than you need.
- Review your schedule when household water use changes.
Compare value accurately
Cost per bag = bundle total ÷ bag count. Cost per pound = bundle total ÷ total bundle pounds. Review the actual recurring charge and frequency before subscribing.
