Morton Clean & Protect Plus Rust Defense Water Softener Salt Pellets are formulated for household ion-exchange water softeners, especially where iron-related staining or residue may be a concern.

How to use

Add the pellets directly to the brine tank and maintain the salt level recommended by the equipment manufacturer. Follow the softener manual for regeneration, cleaning, and maintenance.

How much do I need?

Quick starting estimate: Many households use roughly 40–80 lb of softener salt per month. That is about 1–2 standard 40 lb bags, or roughly 1–2 of the 44 lb bags. Actual usage can vary significantly with water hardness, iron level, household size, softener capacity, and regeneration settings.

  • 2 bags: good for a trial order, light use, or roughly 1 month for lower-use homes
  • 3–4 bags: a practical refill for many households
  • 6 bags: useful for larger households, harder water, higher iron, higher usage, or stocking up

Check the brine tank every 2–4 weeks and reorder before the salt drops below the level recommended by your softener manufacturer. If you consistently use more than 2 bags per month, a larger bundle or recurring delivery can help prevent running out.
